Research Interests
The main focus of work in the Schatzschneider group in the field of  bioorganometallic and medicinal inorganic chemistry is to utilize the  inherent properties of transition metal compounds, like redox activity,  light absorption and emission, as well as ligand exchange reactions to  develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic agents with potential  applications in human medicine.

In our major project, novel transition-metal carbonyl complexes are  prepared and evaluated for their applications as CO-releasing molecules  (CORMs), in particular those which can be induced by external stimuli  like enzymatic reactions (ET-CORMs) and photoactivation (PhotoCORMs).

Significant work is also devoted to the attachment of such CORMs to  biological carrier systems like cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) and  nanoparticles for selective enrichment in cells and tissues.
